ST. CATHARINES MINOR HOCKEY SCHOOL  Since 1956   St. Catharines Minor Hockey School is committed to providing opportunities for the development of fundamental skills for young players. SCMHS was started by Vic Teal, Jimmy Joy and Ashton Morrison in 1956, and has become a St. Catharines institution for 58 years.  First enrollment was 200, reaching a maximum of 1200 kids from ages 5-12 years old.

The program at that time ran from Oct. to March for a total of 23 weeks.  An all-volunteer commitment allowed it to keep registration fees at $2.00 per player in 1956.  We have continued the program from our great success when there were limited options for hockey in St Catharines, to today when we continue helping children enjoy the game and learn to be better hockey players. Volunteers are always required and welcomed for our successful operation.

Programs Goals from 1956: To introduce basic skills of hockey in a non-competitive atmosphere. To prepare young children for entry into minor hockey. To provide an excellent, low-key fun introduction to the game. To provide children with a continuous learning experience.

To give parents the opportunity to participate by becoming volunteer instructors
