Power Play Productive
The GCMHA Minor Bantam A Team headed down the 406 tonight to take on arch rival Welland Tigers. The Falcons got off to a quick start as Owen B fired a quick release shot after receiving an excellent pass from Eric V.
After Welland scored two quick goals at the end of the first period the Falcons lost their focus for a short period of time allowing Welland to score two more goals taking a 4-1 lead by the half way mark of the second period.
Not to be out done, and after regaining their focus, the Falcons continued to put pressure on the Tigers creating turnovers with an effective neutral zone forecheck resulting in four unanswered goals of their own to pull out the win on the road. Three of the Falcons goals were Power Play markers.

The Falcons second goal resulted from some hard work by Carter D who passed the puck out front to Robbie D filling in for Connor C who was recovering on the bench after being winded on the previous shift. The Welland goalie had trouble handling Robbie's shot. The rebound squirted loose to the other side of the crease where a wide open Morgan D made no mistake burying the puck into an open net for his first of two goals on the night. Less than two minutes later Morgan D scored again with Carter D picking up the assist. The second period ended with the Falcons closing the gap to 4-3.
The Falcons Dryland Strength and Conditioning helped them take control in the third period. They also maintained their focus resulting in two more unanswered goals in the third period. Defenceman Ty W's quick release point shot from a pass off the stick of Ben A found it's way through a maze of players and the Welland goalies legs for the Falcons fourth goal tieing the game early in the third.
Ben A set up linemate Adam W for the winning goal with just over six minutes remaining in the game. A forechecking adjustment at that point significantly restricted the Welland players from creating scoring opportunities. Any opportunities Welland did have were smothered by Falcons goalie Ben B who stopped 27 shots for the win.

Scoring Summary;

Ben A       2A
Carter D    2A
Morgan D  2G
Robbie D   1A
Eric V 1A
Owen B     1G
Ty W  1G
Adam W 1G
