Regular Season Game 2 vs. Brampton

Last night the Falcons travelled to Brampton in our second road game of the season. The Falcons were unfortunately tasked with a difficult set up pre-game, not getting our room until real close to game time, and a room that was a complete swamp. This unsettledness lead to a slow start for the Falcons, as Brampton jumped out to an early 1-0 in the first period. Our team Captain George would then pick up a loose puck in the neutral zone, walk in and make a nice move around a defender and beat the Brampton goalie to tie the game at one. The Falcons would then add our first Powerplay goal of the season, as another point shot from Hensley (2 goals in 2 games) would find the back of the net. Brampton would score again before period end to tie it at 2 after the first period.

In the second period, the Falcons started the period well, generating a few scoring chances and battling hard. However, Brampton would score and take a 3-2 lead as the Falcons began to be on our heels as we entered the third period.

The third period was a tale of two different Falcon teams. In the first 5 minutes of the third period, the Falcons were hemmed in our zone (partially due to a long shift that wasn't the teams fault but result of a good forcheck from Brampton). However, the Falcons would catch a break, as after some good work from the red line, Colton's aggressive forcheck lead to a turnover and as Preston shot the puck towards the net, it somehow found the back of the net tying the game up at 3 mid way through the third period.

This tying goal seemed to spark the Falcons as a few shifts later, both Hayden and Spicy Thai would win some low battles in the offensive zone, allow Caedan to slam home a loose puck in front of the Brampton net as the Falcons jumped out to a 4-3 lead. As this group came back to the bench, Spicy Thai would fire up the boys, yelling "LET'S GO, WE GOT THIS" (proud moment for our coaching staff to see this)

Another aggressive forcheck by Colton lead to a loose puck battle for George, who gave Preston a beautiful cross ice pass, and Preston had a really nice shot to beat the Brampton goalie for his second goal of the game, and giving the Falcons a 5-3 lead which we would not give up and skate away with the victory.

Positives of the Game:
-Spicy Thai firing the boys up
-lack of quit from our team
-decent forcheck at times
-big games from Colton, Aidan, Caedan, Patrick and Cohen in goal
-first powerplay goal of the season

Things to improve on:
-having our stick ON THE ICE
-tying up the man in front of the net
****key point about in front of the net play. Of the 8 goals scored in this game, 7 were result of plays in front of the net, including Hensleys point shot where a good screen had the puck beat the goalie. All 3 goals against were due to open men in front of our net as well****
-puck movement in the neutral zone

Player of the Game: Caedan- game winning goal, solid 2 way game, excellent compete level
