Falcons Fall to Two of League's Best
The St. Catharines Novice A Falcons put together very respectable performances in back to back games last weekend against the top two teams in the standings in Lincoln and Glanbrook.
On Friday night, the Falcons welcomed Lincoln to the Seymour Hannah Entertainment Complex and battled hard, as usual, holding the Blades to only one goal through two periods before they'd eventually pull away with a 6-1 win. Sam Evangelista, with his second goal of the season, tallied for the Falcons, with Zach Engelen and Chase Dayaram drawing assists.
Then, on Saturday afternoon, the Falcons headed to Glanbrook to take on the first place Rangers. Once again, the Falcons played hard for two periods but eventually Glanbrook would take advantage of a number of questionable calls, scoring three times on the powerplay in the third in a 9-1 victory. Malik Moore broke the Glanbrook shutout with only two seconds left on the clock, his fourth goal of the young campaign.
Quinton Burkley stood tall, making 36 saves in the two games on the weekend.
Glanbrook (5-0-0, 10 points) and Lincoln (5-2-0, 10 points) both sit #1 and #2 currently in the Niagara District Hockey League's Novice Division so again, our Falcons should be proud of their competitiveness in both games.
The Falcons (1-5-0, 2 points) will look to bounce back on Friday night, as they face West Lincoln (0-4-0) at 6:00pm in Smithville.
