That’s 1…2…3…4…5!
Taking to the ice in Buffalo for the 51st Annual Gene Harrington Shootout Classic, the 13U BB Falcons knew it was going to take 5 wins to take home the Hardware, so, we started counting…

The tournament started with 5-2 win over Pembroke and while a W to start a tournament is always good, that’s only 1. Back on the ice later that day produced a 6-1 win over Parma Flyers and we knew we were bound for the Semi-finals by Friday’s end. Crossing the boarder and heading back home to Canada that evening, many were asked if they had anything to declare, which, to the delight of at least one Boarder Guard, was met with, ‘We’re 2-0 and lookin’ good!’

Saturday morning’s game was against the Pittsburg Yetis with the winner taking top seat in our pool. Our Falcons strutted out on to the outdoor ice at Buffalo’s Riverworks Arena in their brand new 3rd Jersey’s looking like the Champion they wanted to be. A 5-0 victory gave us first place in our pool and another W on the board. That’s 3!

Tournament Sunday Hockey is always where you want to be and with a 3-1 win over the Beaver City Badges in the the Semi-Finals these Falcons ensured they would play more Sunday hockey later that day. That’s 4!

After missing out on a Finals appearance in their first tournament by only 1 goal on a tie breaker, these Falcons were not just happy to make it there but were ready to take one step further. Knowing they came for 5 W’s, they had ever intention of leaving with 5 W’s and that is exactly what they did. A 5-1 victory in the Finals put the hardware in the hands of these Falcons and they deserved every piece of it.

5-0, 24 Goals for, 5 against, 11 different skaters scored goals, all 15 skaters puts points on the score sheet and the goalies counted the W’s along with everybody else, 1…2…3…4…5!

Challenge issued + Challenge accepted = Championship Won!

Crossing the boarder one last time on his way home that night, Coach Brad was asked if he was bring back any goods he need to declare, “yeah, the goods!” He answered, pointing to the big trophy his son was holding in the passenger seat.

What a weekend! What a team!
