Newmarket Tournament Recap
Click to review the recap of this weekends Newmarket Tournament.

Game 1: The Falcons battled hard vs a solid Newmarket team. Newmarket came out ready to play, as they moved quite well in 5 man units in every zone of the ice. While the Falcons were able to generate a few scoring chances using our speed beating a slow moving defence unit, we were unable to get on the score sheet as we ran into an extremely good goalie, who made several point blank saves, especially in the second period.

Game 2: The Falcons looked to have an improved game vs. the Orangeville Flyers, especially coming off a 5-1 loss in our  previous game against the Flyers. The Falcons came ready to play, with Nathan DiP opening up the scoring, after Brandon got the puck to the net, with Nathan tipping the puck past the Flyers goalie. The Flyers tied the game up in the first period as we skated to a 1-1 tie after 1. In the second period, Quinner scored a beautiful goal, dancing his way around 3 Flyers to then go bar down to get the lead. The Flyers were able to tie the game up again in the second, and after scoring another goal, took a 3-2 lead into the third period. Lucas C kept us in the game early in the third, as he made several big saves. The Falcons were able to generate some late offence as we pushed to tie the game, however fell 3-2 to the Flyers.

Between games: The team went to the Aurora Community Centre to watch the OMHA Showcase for the top Midget players in Ontario. The Falcons players were asked to watch players that played their position, and learn about what it takes to play at the next level. Some common themes were, winning every puck battle, playing physical, being hard on the puck and focusing on the little details of the game

Game 3: The Falcons came out flying, as we outshot Belle River 42-14. Big ups to Jackie has he made some good saves, especially in the first before the Falcons took control of the game and controlled the pace of play. Several players played their best game in the past month (Evan, Brandon, Sacha, Jackie, Qasim) and we used our speed and excellent puck movement to fly through the NZ into the offensive zone, to generate several high quality scoring chances. Despite the score only be 3-0, the Falcons dominated this game and hit 5 goal posts throughout the game, including 2 goal posts in 35 seconds! A very solid game by the Falcons to wrap up a fun filled weekend.

Highlights of the weekend: (in no specific order)
1. Having played three solid games this weekend (4 overall going back to our last regular season game) Ollie had prepared a speech for the team on why him and Lukas T should be allowed to sit together in the dressing room. His points where "since it hasn't happened before, we don't know if it will be a bad thing", and "this should be allowed as Canada is a free country"!!!! The coaching staff, specifically Danny has been placed on notice, and the new deal is that both Ollie and Lukas T have to have 2 straight amazing games vs. Burlington Gold to be able to do so.

2. Three good games played by our team, despite going 1-2.

3. The OMHA Showdown where the kids saw what it takes to play at the next level.

4. The DRAFT for the next team event!!! Some interesting teams were formed, including an all defence TEAM!!!!

5. The overall enjoyment and fun a the hotel from both parents and kids!

Up next: Burlington Gold Tuesday night before 5 straight practices, including 2 Dave Cullen sessions, a systems practice, skills practice, and a DRAFT BATTLE RUMBLE!!!
